French version ?[edit]

I'd like to translate this wiki in french but I don't know how I am supposed to do it. Would it be possible to add an "other languages" under the toolbox below the "research" button that would lead to a French version of the wiki ? I can translate everything I just need to know how I can implement french pages into this wiki.

Thanks in advance. Perhaps it would be easier if I created a whole kf-wiki.fr, but again I don't know how that works and basically I don't want to steal anything from this wiki which I fond good, I'd just like to translate so that the french community can understand if they need to.

--"May Tchernobog be with you." Infuscomus 18:49, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps you can do it the same way the russian translators are. Until we get a better way to sort the translated pages, the way we're using now is just simply adding a subpage (/fr behind the article title) to the article you wish to translate. --Takua 15:04, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Well I did start to translate, I think I'm gonna do the whole site (at least what I can do in my living-time). May I ask the right to put a French flag on the Main Page that would link to the French main page ?

--May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 21:41, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah sure, as long as it fits somewhere good on the main page. :D --Takua 13:34, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking of a small flag on the very top of that page, so that it's visible but not too much. Still, I only translated the Killing FLoor page now so it's a bit too soon. I'll rename all the (FR) pages in /fr since I saw you modified that on KF/fr. Is there à mean to protect the pages perhaps ? --May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 13:59, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Just a question, how "small" is the flag you're planning on adding? Also, I don't really get the last question :X. But are you asking me to help protect some pages or unprotect. :O --Takua 14:10, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

I don't know, something small, less than 50x50. Yes I was wondering if it was possible for me to protect the page I translate, not that I'm afraid that someone will clear everything but...I don't know, the fact that everybody can write and/or clean everything scares me a little. Not that important anyway, if the general site has never encountered any problem I guess this is safe enough.

Also, in the general Killing Floor article, it seems you left only 6 perks instead of 7 since Demolitions have been implemented. --May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 14:33, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

If I protect it, only admins are able to edit it and if I just semi-protect it, anyone who has an account older than 4 days (or at least 10 wiki edits) will be able to edit it. I can always unprotect it for you but some days I'm rather busy. So it might take some time if you want a protected article to be unprotected again. --Takua 16:28, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok no problem forget about it, I'm gonna save those page I guess, just in case something bad happens. Thanks a lot, I'm going to continue my translations slowly but surely over the days.--May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 20:15, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
 • Alright check the recent modification list I loaded the flag on the site, tell me if you think it would fit somewhere on a corner on the top of the main page.--May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 14:53, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
In my opinion, the top-right or bottom-left would be the best options. --Takua 11:03, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, top right seems nice to me. I need to translate the rest of weapons and ennemies, then it's gonna worth it to put the flag.--May Tchernobog be with you. Infuscomus 11:51, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Capitalisation[edit]

Question: What is the policy on in-game item capitalization? That is, do we want to capitalize them all as a matter of stylistic consistency (so that all instances of Fire axe look like this), or is it just a mater of eliminating red links? If it's the latter, then I was going to fix that by redirecting all of the red links to their capitalized counterparts (like Fire axe); this way, people can just link as they go without worrying about awkward mid-sentence capitalization.

For the record, I would suggest a specific standard: Capitalize all names of specimens (such as Bloats), all names of weapons, because they seem to be an eclectic mix of generic (Knife) and specific (Bullpup), perk titles, and of course map and character names. By contrast, I think we should not force capitalization of mundane terms, such as hit-and-run tactics, game mechanics, such as alternate fire, or weapon classifications, such as Category:Melee weapons. My primary reasoning is that with the expansion of the wiki, more articles will be added and linked, and we don't want sentences to eventually look like this:

"The vast majority of the Enemies Encountered during the First Wave are Clots and Gorefasts, and the Players begin with very little Ammunition. Moreover, the 9mm tactical pistol provided at the Start does not Contribute to the Leveling of any Perk, unlike the Knife."

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Hashmir 17:04, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

I second what Hash says. I haven't actually gone and added anything huge yet, but I was under the impression that we were only going to capitalise in-game terms (that the game itself capitalises) such as weapon/perk/specimen names. The other stuff - terms we players have come up with ourselves to describe certain phenomenon (kite/kiting, hit-and-run) don't need to be capitalised IMO. ~ Lollerman 27/May

Actually, I thought of another matter that bears consideration: What about "casual" references? For instance, there will undoubtedly be many, many sentences referring to the 9mm tactical pistol, and we know from experience that it is almost always simply called the "pistol". I would propose that we capitalise all "proper" names, but allow casual references or generic weapon names to simply follow standard rules. After all, most of this information is common knowledge, and anything confusion should be ameliorated by the fact that the word itself links to the item. Examples of this proposal would be:
 • In this situation, it is best to use the 9mm tactical pistol. (proper name, capitalised)
 • In this situation, it is best to use the pistol (removed link, edit by Random Guy 21:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)). (generic name, not capitalised, would link to 9mm Tactical Pistol)
 • In this situation, it is best to use the knife. (generic name and proper name are the same, not capitalised?)
The last part could go either way. I personally would prefer to refer to generic weapons as pistols and fire axes, rather than Pistols and Fire Axes, simply because it can be a little jarring to have so many mid-sentence capitals, but one could make an argument for the other side. I'm not desperately invested in the notion; I just want to establish some standard before we all go off making pages that are completely inconsistent.
Side note: It almost certainly doesn't matter at all, but I (though American) will be using British grammar and punctuation rules in this wiki. It seems appropriate, given that the game and (seemingly) most of the fanbase are British as well. Practically, that means saying "capitalisation", "honour", and so on, as well as placing certain punctuation marks outside quotes. Not that anyone cares.
Hashmir 23:40, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

So in conclusion:

 • casual references
 • single links (in instances where the same subject is brought up within relatively brief span of text)
 • British grammar

I concur, and will be editing content in accordance with these standards from now on. (I'm Aussie, and was doing so from the beginning anyway)

~ Lollerman 27/May (EST)

Yes, we capitalise all in-game weapons, specimens and a few others (Berserker, Commando, Bullpup, Bloat, ZED-Time, Trailer) and use British English (Armour not armor). Knife not knife. Commonly used words should not be capitalised but when making an article of it, do capitalise the headline.

Eg: "The vast majority of the enemies encountered during the first wave are Clots and Gorefasts, and the players begin with very little ammunition. Moreover, the 9mm Tactical Pistol provided at the start does not contribute to the leveling of any Perk, unlike the Knife."

It's kinda hard to explain but I hope you guys get my point. Names of stuff in KF (Shotgun, Fleshpound). Commonly used terms like ammo, enemies, first, leveling, players should not be capitalised unless it is the first word found in a new sentence.

I would also prefer typing the "pistol" as 9mm tactical pistol whenever needed so we do not need to create another article for the pistol. The word pistol in Killing Floor may also refer to the Handcannon. So it's best to type specificly. --Takua 09:08, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm sure 9mm/.50Cal would suffice, with a bit of context, should go a long way.

Also, I've uploaded the new pictures; for some reason wiki won't accept my png's, so I've stuck with JPEGs, hopefully it's good enough.

Side note: it pisses me off that I can't delete my own uploads... some of them are just up there wasting space, and my "updates" aren't updates at all, they're new, and I can't replace old pictures either... blah, it's not obvious to me enough, so I ended up uploading new pictures despite my attempt to "update".

I'll get the hang of it another time. Meh.

~ Lollerman 27/May (EST)

Sure jpg is good enough, png is just better.

I'm also aware that it can get quite annoying to "update" the pictures, the best way to "update" a picture is to just rename the picture. Shotgun > Shotgun1.

Specimens need to be capitalised btw. It's considered a Killing Floor term. Squad too. --Takua 14:18, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Alright, I gotcha. But for the record, I would still argue for allowing Pistol (capitalised as a weapon name) and simply creating a redirect to the technical page, as shown here. Similarly, 9mm and .50Cal could be used, and I do think the fact that these would link directly to the proper pages would clear up any possible confusion. I believe the that the convenience of being able to refer to the Rifle, the Bow (removed link, edit by Random Guy 21:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)) and Armour far outweighs the potential slight (and temporary) confusion to the newest newcomers -- anyone with even a modicum of Killing Floor experience would know what the terms mean, and anyone else will understand all instances of them after visiting the proper page just once.

In the meantime, though, I'll be continuing my work, using the standards you described. Also, whatever we decide, I'll work up a style guideline and post it up somewhere. Do we have a namespace corresponding to the "Wikipedia:_____" on Wikipedia? That's where they have all of their policies and guidelines. Otherwise, I'll probably just create the page in my userpage or something.

Cheers!

Addendum: I've been capitalising weapon categories (Primary Weapons and such) because they are technical, in-game classifications. I'll also be adding pages for each of them (except miscellaneous), as I think they are worth the space. For instance, Category:Melee weapons share a lot of common information, etc. Anyone have a problem with this?

Hashmir 16:30, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

None what so ever, I've yet to contribute largely to any of the pages... let's aim to fill up monster/weapon/perk information by this weekend =] I'm going to be writing up some deeper strategies later soonish too, hopefully we can grab more people from the forums before it's done @[email protected] I'm going to want more feedback.

Pistols can seriously mean either the Handcannon or the 9mm, due to their obvious reason: They ARE both pistols. Using the term Pistol(s) can be accepted if you are referring to both the .50cal AND the 9mm.

On the other hand, I guess using short-terms can be accepted (Armour, Rifle, 9mm, .50cal). However, remember to redirect the page and never call a crossbow, a bow for obvious reasons.

I'm also not sure about that wikipedia thing, you gotta' ask J03 the, he's the guy who created this wiki for us. :\ --Takua 17:00, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

It's called Thin-ice Pirouette, not Thing.

Also, "specimen", "knife", "shotgun" don't warrant capital letters; it's simply incorrect grammar to do so, nor is writing out numbers (like 5 instead of five). The numbers thing I can let slide, but capitalising specimen and perk is stupid, don't do it; it's why Hashmir left.

Well, feel free to change everything to lower-case then, I just decided to use upper-case letters because I was just a little lazy to replace all of it at that particular time. I'll change the format, don't worry about that. Once I finish off the main-page and maybe complete descriptions of each specimen, I'll start changing to lower-case, including Squad. I'm also sure there's nothing wrong with writing five rather than 5, unless it's some huge number like nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine.

How bout' names of in-game weapons? First letter capitalised only? Both, or none? Thing-ice Pirouette was a typo, sorry bout' that. Anyways, the new main-page is almost ready. --Takua 18:43, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, bugger the numbers, stick with 1234 etc, as for weapons; they're general names, not model/make names (though, as you've noticed, they are actual guns in real life), so you wouldn't capitalise them either, only the LAW as its an acronym.

Meh exams are making me cranky, I'll get around to contributing more sooner or later. - Lollerman

New format[edit]

I'll still be capitalising the new main-page weapon names. Both of words. Or just the first word? Also, I think we should capitalise the first word of each weapon only, since most game-wikis are doing it. :| --Takua 06:35, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

New Main Page[edit]

I'm done with the new main page, but a few pics are still missing. (BetaHome) Should we move it to the main page first? Or wait for all the pictures to be done? --Takua 08:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

~ I reckon put it up; I'm extremely wiki illiterate, so I have trouble linking/finding pages unless you've already linked them for me, so it'd be easier for me to help work on pages if they're up and accessible. (also, because I think it looks totally sweet)

Case in point: I know Patriarch's bounty, but I don't know how to put it in the awesome new table thingy you made D= ~Lollerman

K, new main page coming up! --Takua 12:57, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Eh, I reckon we should feature the perks more than we feature the dime-a-dozen characters that KF offers... TWI could always add more character portrait/models, so who the player uses is really up to them, and they don't really have an extensive backstory either... maybe you should switch perks with the squad members? ~ Lollerman

Will do Mr. Man. (I spent hours cropping those pics, but oh wells :<) --Takua 17:16, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

And they're lovely - I know - you're only changing the focus of the wiki, it isn't as if we're going to get rid of player models for sure, besides TWI could add more interesting ones in the future, or even a single player campaign... anything could happen *shrug*.

MAYBE! That's the sad word.

Lets think perk-wise now, perks on the main page should be redirected to the perk page or its individual article?

eg. Berserker and so on.... --Takua 17:56, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Individual pages would be great, much like how the squad members had their own pages; I'll be chucking my perk related stuff in there if I ever type them up when I'm bored... I don't really have a template, but things like how to deal with particular specimen with specific weapons and play styles would probably go there.

Any ideas on the sort of subheadings I could use? I'm having trouble separating weapon use and killing methods for specimens...

On second though, I'll just post whatever crap I can think of, and we'll see how we can format the content after it's up there already...

But the real question is, how much can we write about just one perk? I wouldn't like an individual perk page with only 1 or 2 paragraphs. :| We should write the individual perk pages first before we change the main page IMO, but considering I just finished the main page, I won't be editing the wiki a lot till' this weekend. Breaks are needed. :] --Takua 10:34, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

About the individual perks, we could put up the requirements and bonuses for that perk in particular (from the requirements and bonuses page). Also tactics for how to increase their levels in a good way and what to look out for, do's and don't's sort of. How to help the team. There's more warrant for individual pages of the perks then for the individual characters I think.

Any reason why the squad members have their own pages, or is it ok to put them on one page? The information there is the biography from in-game and maybe a picture of the character. That's the only difference between them, their biography and slightly different graphics, right? There's no special pros or cons to picking one or the other, and the voice clips are identical (as far as I know). Should be better as one page, similar to the perks page. Or is there some other reason I've missed? --Random Guy 12:43, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, we didn't need individual pages for each character but now it's made, I feel like keeping it that way since we have the templates for easier access of each character.

Regarding the individual perk pages, we just need to finish off each of the perk page itself. Then I'll do the main page table for it *adds task to the To-Do*

Oh, and Lollerman, weren't you gonna' add in the bounty for the Patriarch? If you still don't know how, why don't you list it here so I can edit it in for you. --Takua 15:07, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Steam Group?[edit]

Do you guys think it's necessary for the creation of a kf-wiki steam group? Just thought of suggesting. Yeah, I thought of suggesting cause' the L4D and TF2 wiki guys are doing. --Takua 06:24, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Shrug, I'm up for anything; between exams and a new job (which initially seemed easy, but now seems hardly worth it...) I'm having a bit of trouble getting anything written down; any free time I have I'm relaxing or out doing some other forms of relaxing.

Ahhhh the individual perk pages would boast superior content relevant to most other pages, considering a large amount of gameplay/weapon use/monster strategies are dependant upon the perks you choose. From general tactics to in-depth strategy, and like Random said, perk-specific leveling tips, any and all of those information falls under the individual perk pages.

If, you know, we had any.

Like I said though, I'll see if I can put some info up there first, and let you guys go over it first before we throw it into the rest of the wiki.

(As for Patriarch money; for some ODD reason I can't beat the fucker on Hard by myself... which is retarded considering Suicidal went down easily. I might have to download some custom maps JUST to freaking do this, but in the mean time, I'll get the perk stuff up first.

~ Lollerman

I really don't know what tips we could add for leveling up perks. Like the Sharpshooter or field medic, ==Tips==
Shoot heads of clots.
Heal people.
:\

Screw that, lets just add whatever we can first. --Takua 09:59, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I've added the individual pages for perks now, and just copied the bonuses and requirements to their respective page. Feel free to continue... Ooh, I forgot to add them to the Stubs category, I'll do that... Anyway, links to the pages: Field medic - Support specialist - Sharpshooter - Commando - Berserker - Firebug --Random Guy 12:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we need that table anymore if it's just one perk requirement. I think that its more organised if we make it a headline or something.

eg. ==Requirements & Bonuses==

Requirements
Level 1

 • 9999 Stalkers
 • 999999999 Damage with the Bullpup

Level 2

 • 2 Stalkers
 • 1 Damage with the bullpup

......

Bonuses
Level 1

 • Cheaper Bullpups
 • More damage.

..........

What do you guys think? --Takua 13:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Oh and what the hell is with the main page?! The tables have been separated and I don't know why. :\ --Takua 14:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I think it looks good as it is... but if you feel like it feel free to change one of the pages and link the one you chose, maybe it'll look better. The perk-pages aren't linked from any other pages (except Commando I think?) so if they don't look too great yet it doesn't matter too much. Work in progress.

And, umm, I think I caused that on the main page :-/ Should be alright now though. When I added the noinclude-tags (so other pages don't join the "main page"-category if the templates are transcluded) to the category-tags at the bottom some extra space got in there too. Anyway, back to normal now :-) (Added the noinclude because I put the "official maps"-template on each map's page and then they joined the "main page"-category, but not anymore) --Random Guy 17:21, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, it's me again :-) I was tempted to do a new section, but I feel like sections aren't really followed on talk pages. Anyway, my question is about page deletion. As of now there's only one administrator on this wiki (the creator J03) who can delete pages (and do other administrator actions). I feel like most pages on Orphaned pages and Unused templates are ok to delete at the moment (after a proper look-through first of course). Any thoughts on how to handle page deletion and administrator nominations and such?

Also, what about starting a KFwiki-namespace? Later on there might be more guideline-pages and it would be nice to gather them up in one namespace (for example KFwiki:Format, KFwiki:Guidelines, KFwiki:Naming and KFwiki:Linking). --Random Guy 18:07, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

The admin, J03.Never came online for weeks and weeks, I really hope we don't become an admin-less wiki. :[ As I don't think there is anyway to get another person to become admin or use admin-powers if J03 doesn't get active, yes, that's sad.

About that KFwiki-namespace, I'm unsure what the use of that will be <_<" So yeah.... No comment. --Takua 18:16, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Just so you know guys, I have the pictures of the perks for the main page ready. Basically just the perk icon and a white background which is obviously seen as nothing when put on the main page. Except the freaking Commando icon, it's so damn hard to make everything white, even photoshop couldn't do it. Seriously, I tried to do it for 2 hours and failed. --Takua 18:48, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Back to top[edit]

Hay guys, it's been some time since any discussions were going on. Just asking whether a "back to top" link would make the main page better? I've already added it in on the main. Oh and, a specimen should be called its gender or "it" and the pics of each specimen should only have the head and part of the body like the squad members? Or the full thing? --Takua 07:37, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

siren/stalker - she clot/gore/scrake/flesh - he crawler - the fucker (it)

ALSO I HAS FINISHED EXAMS W00T

If ya want the achievement icons I can grab them and upload them now =D =D =D

And then I'll write the perk pages =D =D =D =D

And then you guys can delete what I write because they'll most likely be stuff I wrote while I'm high off my face =D =D =D =D =D

~ Lollerman

Lollerman, you have a problem. A big one. --Takua 10:17, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

That aside, I'm done with that achievement stuff and I took it off the list.

Going move onto perk stuff now... but I'll be taking my sweet time there since I managed to find something else to do. Toodoolidoo.

~ Lollerman

Awesome job. :O and is it just me or the "Thin-ice piroutte" just changed to "Thing" again. Don't worry, I changed it already. <.<--Takua 14:11, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

_________

One last thing and I'll stop bugging you >.< How do you put videos and images into a page, in the boxes aligned to either side? Thanks

--Alessio 22:27, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

 • To put an image to either the extreme left, center or right, just type and the picture will move to the extreme right.
 • Videos just needs a bit more memorising, just add <div style="float: right"></div> in between your video and it will go to the right.
Eg. <div style="float: right"><youtube>TVcapssH_dc</youtube></div>. --Takua 09:36, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Requests from Koshka[edit]

 • Specimen Attributes

I just wanted to request that we add specimen attributes to the main page under general. It's an extremely useful resource that I didn't know we had at first and I think it should be readily available to people. (I also think the page needs cleaned up a bit and the tables need to be more standardized.

 • Gun Box

Is there a reason it's not standard for magazine size and ammo capacity to be in the gun boxes or on the gun pages? Why do we have weapon discount calculation tables for weapons that don't get discounted with any perk? That seems very redundant.

The weapon infoboxes don't have magazine and ammo information because I haven't gotten round to adding that feature to them yet; they are still incomplete. Also, sign your posts (with ~~~~). — Balthazar (T|C) 08:29, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Oki doki, and I normally tag my messages it was just way too late >,o I couldn't get to sleep last night. If there's anything I can do tell me. :D --Koshka 15:18, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

General chat[edit]

Would it be possible to have a general chat section so we could talk about stuff that isnt specifically limited to one section? --Alessio 15:30, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Nah, I think a "general chat section" would be the main page talk since everybody randomly posts requests there or here. --Takua 06:43, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

29th/30th June update[edit]

Rather than get in a revert war, I thought I'd post on your talk page instead. On the Steam News page, for me at least, it says "29 June 2010" http://store.steampowered.com/news/4005/. Unless, of course, it says 30 June 2010 for you because you live in a different region and it was updated after midnight for you but before midnight for me (If the Steam News page does this)? Unless of course the in game news and the official KF website are also time-zone sensitive, which I doubt, its the 29th. — Balthazar (T|C) 22:50, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
29th it is! Since the official website says so. --Takua 02:16, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Request for new language translation-Korean[edit]

I've decided to translate this killingfloor-wiki to my homeland language-Korean, but I just found out that wiki seems harder to edit than I thought. I tried to edit mainpage, and found that it is being protected. I completed mainpage and I saved it on my computer with format notepad(.txt). Hoping that notepad leaks some of characters, I can't find the way to create new starting page Language: Korean. If you help me making the starting page, and way to create new file, then we would appreciate.
